Increase Your Income – Part 3

Let me give you a personal example of something that God has done in our life. In 1999 God said 3 words to me… “Go help Steve” who was a friend of mine who was moving to Florida to start a Messianic Jewish synagogue. So Jackie and I moved here with no jobs and for two years helped get the first synagogue started. All the while Jackie was praying for a business that I could start that would create recurring income. After a long time of investigating I found out that flat rate unlimited long distance phone service was just becoming available. So I researched the various companies that were providing it and decided on one. We made an agreement that I would get paid $1.00 a month for each new customer I signed up for them, for as long as they kept the service. Well I brought them 9,000 customers in 9 months but suddenly I had a widow maker heart attack. Now even though I spent the next year disabled and unable to work, I got paid $1.00/customer or $9,000.00 the month I had the heart attack. And after a few months that went up to $12,000.00 a month as referrals came in, yet I wasn’t even working. Recurring income is king and any business you start should be based on it!
All during this time the docs were insisting on me having a bypass and the 7 drugs I was on were really knocking me out. So to make a long story short, using God’s wisdom we developed a natural drink that got me off all the drugs within a few months. My cardiologist said it couldn’t be done.
If any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you; because God gives generously and graciously to all. James 1:5
For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it shall be opened. Matthew 7:8
God is saying if you lack wisdom just ask Him for it and He will give it to you. And He also says that even bad experiences can be turned around to the good. God makes lemonade out of lemons.
God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose for them. Romans 8:28
Now, have you ever heard “timing is everything”? I am part of the baby boomer generation. As we all are getting older we are dealing with aching joints, wrinkles, heart attacks, strokes, cancer, and so on. Well have you ever heard: “being at the right place at the right time,” or “ride the wave to success?” In order to ride a wave you need to be directly in front of it and catch it at the right place at the right time. Today, products and services that benefit baby boomers are very successful because we are the largest and richest segment of the population and we will spend our money to solve these problems.
Well the cardiovascular drink I made for myself certainly qualified, since tons of baby boomers needed, and still need toreduce their blood pressure, cholesterol and clean out their arteries. So by making it available online, God blessed us with a multi-million dollar business.
Before we go further, let me warn you to resist becoming prideful! Maintain a great attitude and bless your customers. And if you work for a company, bless your employer by working for him as if you were working directly for God Himself.
“God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6
Remember where your talents come from and give God the credit. I have hired and fired many people over the years. So I can tell you that when an employee did just enough to get by, I noticed. But employees who had great attitudes and went above and beyond, they got raises and promoted. So bless your employer by figuring out how to make his company more money. But again remember, you don’t give your best with the motive of getting, but to bless, and in turn God will bless you with abundance. This is true!
Remember, your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to build God’s Kingdom by improving this world and letting others know why you are personally being blessed. When you do this, they will want what you have too. And when you do, God will provide all the money to do it, AND He will also build your kingdom! It’s when you stop looking for some book or guru to tell you exactly what to invest your money in, and just use God’s wisdom, His plan, and honor Him by what you do…that you will see real wealth. But you may say, sure rabbi that’s easy for you as you have all this experience. Well let’s look at one of the giants in the Bible and see how he started.
Today, we think of Moses as a great hero. But let’s step back and see the excuses Moses made as to why he couldn’t possibly be the one that God should use to free the Israelite slaves. He said to God…
- “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?”
- Translation: I am nothing. I am no one special. I have failed many times, I’m just not the right guy.
- Then Moses asked God “What Shall I Say?”
- Translation: I don’t know what to say, I’m not the right one to do this
- Then Moses said, “What if they won’t believe me?”
- Translation: No one is going to listen to me or believe me. I’m not the right one to do this.
- Then Moses told God he doesn’t speak well
- Translation: I’m not a good public speaker. I get “tongue-tied.” I’m not the right one to do this.
Finally, Moses just told God “No.” I’ve heard what you’ve said, but I don’t know what to say or how to say it, I can’t do this, I won’t do this. I’m not the right guy for this so go find someone else!
But even though Moses lacked faith, the Lord showed him mercy and graciously used him in spite of himself. Think about it, Moses’ excuses were true. After all, why would Pharaoh who considered himself to be a god, listen to a poor shepherd? After 40 years in the desert-tending sheep, it’s no wonder Moses was freaking out. After all, really, who was he?
But have you ever stopped to consider that maybe all of Moses’ weaknesses and failures were precisely why the Lord chose him? By choosing a weak and sinful man, the Lord, not Moses got all the praise and glory and honor. Why, because Moses was right. It wasn’t possible for Moses to lead the nation of Israel out of Egypt on his own. He wasn’t capable. And he knew it.
According to the Quartermaster General of the Army, it is calculated that Moses would have needed 1500 tons of food each day to feed the Israelites. To bring that much food each day, two freight trains, each a mile long, would be required. Plus the 4000 tons of wood to cook the food would require a few more freight trains, each a mile long, and the 11,000,000 gallons of water each day would require another freight train with tank cars, 3 miles long. So yes, Moses was right He couldn’t do this, but God took care of those things for him… every day! And today, the Lord is calling you. Will you be faithful or will you give God excuses why you’re the wrong person for the job?
Ok, so to close Part 3… Money is power, and its highest use is to advance God’s Kingdom.
